The Top of Mingus
Our original plan was to first go camping with our friends, Doug, Jess, and their two girls, on Labor Day weekend.
And because of the boys' schedules, we weren't to leave until Sunday night and then return sometime late Monday afternoon.
Well, after playing games the Saturday night before and discussing how it currently was the mating season of the tarantula, plans started to be re thought.
Being in the last trimester of pregnancy, Jess would have to get up numerous times at night and the thought of seeing an unfriendly creature outside the tent in the dark was not very comforting.
Also, Izaac happened to be teething that weekend and was somewhat of a grouch.
So Sunday morning after church, we opted to go up to Mount Mingus for our originally planned camping dinner meal, Chili dinner with corn muffins, walk around a bit, but then to just leave and sleep at our house afterwards instead , so that we could still have a different kind of night. AND so that we could eat the planned and already made breakfast burritos!
... hey, we didn't want them to go to waste!
So that is what we did. In the late afternoon we packed up the dinner and some toys and headed up the mountain.
It was absolutely beautiful and we were all so excited and hungry.
Well.....
Not even 5 minutes into unloading the cars, I managed to lock the keys in the trunk.
It seriously was the worst.
Especially because Jimmy had JUST said, "Don't lock the keys in the car!"
Man oh man. I was crying. Jimmy was not to happy with me. And we were both somewhat embarrassed.
How foolish of me.
But after we all calmed down, we found out that our insurance would actually take care of it if we found someone to come and open the car, so we did, and they came, and we got in.
And Doug and Jess were so awesome and kind during this little mishap. Thanks guys! =)
So while waiting for people to come help us, we still got to go on a little hike, do some exploring, and eat the yummy chili that Jess made.
So it actually was still a very fun night.
Just as the sun went down we were able to get back in our car and go home, and from there we put the kids down and started the games.
I still can't get over how lucky we are for such awesome friends!
Here are some pictures.
Wild cows... or cows that somehow got loose lol.
(They were actually huge and kind of intimidating)
Little Miss Abigail
On the hike!
Enjoying some cake
Throwing rocks in the water never gets old
I am so grateful for such beautiful places on this earth.
The next day was Labor day and we were invited to a picnic at the Church.
We just got a new parking lot that has a covered spot with lots of tables and benches
We had fun.
The kids ran about
Jimmy and I threw the football around
And we had some food and dessert.
Here is a picture of all of us from that day
