Something Clicked
A week before Lexi turned two, she realized what the potty was for. A couple days later, she made the connection between jelly beans and peeing/pooing in the potty. She did phenomenal. She would try to pee all day long just to get a bean.
I NEVER actually told her to go.
Then we got her "undies". And she would just go around in those and got to the point where she was able to take them on and off herself. But I still never told her to go. Jimmy sometimes would. But she honestly would 99% of the time (at home) just go herself. And occasionally when we were out.
However, when we put pants on her... she had some issues. She just would forget or could not get them down in time and would end up going right in front of the potty. Every time surmounting to big splashes of tears.
But we kept at it and just a a couple weeks ago she got the hang of the potty thing with pants on! We practiced extra hard. And this time we would both tell her to go throughout the day (since we had lots of family coming soon, she could no longer just walk around in undies). And she got it before they came! We were so proud!
However, she still was wearing a pull up outside the house and would pee in it. She knew the difference between the pull up and undies and would just go as she pleased if she knew she could.
UNTIL... our family Sedona trip! For some reason, the day of Thanksgiving, Lexi, again all on her own, decided to stop peeing in the pull up. Me and mom probably had to take her pee a thousand and one times on the trip (since we didn't bring her frog potty), but she didn't have an accident once!!
She would just say she had to go, we would take her, and she would go! This happened at the park, in the car, and then at nursery on Sunday! AND her regular teacher wasn't even there! She told a complete stranger that she had to pee and then went!!
I just can't believe how easy she has made this process for me! I just couldn't be more proud of her! Honestly I don't think we could take any of the credit as parents. It's been all her!
I think we will give her another week of doing it all on her own, with no pull ups at home or out and then we could officially say that she is "potty trained"!
